Web browser compatibility
Any browser that supports all of HTML 4.01, DOM level 3, CSS level 2 and Javascript will be able to view the search reports and use the administration interfaces.
JavaScript is required by the search form and the result reports. Cookies are used for various purposes:
- To save the contents of the User name and Email fields in the search form
- To save search form defaults
- If Mascot security is enabled, to save the session information
If saving cookies is not supported or disabled, it will be necessary to re-enter this information every time it is required.
The Protein Family Summary makes more demanding requirements on the browser than other forms and reports. The following table lists the minimum fully supported version of each supported browser. Older versions may work, but with fewer features or some layout problems.
We recommend upgrading your browser to the latest version or downloading a supported browser from the links in the first column.
Browser | Minimum version | Recommended version |
---|---|---|
Google Chrome | 4.0 | Any later stable version |
Internet Explorer | 11.0 | 11.0 |
Microsoft Edge | Any version | |
Mozilla Firefox | 3.6 | Any later version |
Opera | 11.00 | Any later version |
Safari | 4.0 | Any later version |
SeaMonkey | 2.0 | Any later version |
Some Linux distributions ship with a rebranded version of Firefox or SeaMonkey; popular brand names include Iceweasel, Iceape and BurningDog. Recent versions of these browsers are fully compatible. Other browsers using the Gecko rendering engine (which is used by Firefox) are also fully compatible. This includes browsers such as Epiphany, Galeon and K-Meleon.
